Acerca del evento
This unique 3 day community organising and participatory group facilitation course has come about through our new partnership with Community Organisers, Community Colab and Inside Hub. There will be a different focus every day, and you will get the most out of it by attending the entire programme. However, there is the possibility to attend just the first two days if you are not available for the third.
This is an intensive 3 day course, guaranteed to transform the way you work with others, and maximise your ability to bring about meaningful change in the communities you live in, or work with.
Day 1 - Introduction to Community Organising
The starting point for anybody who is interested in community organising. You will begin to understand what community organising involves and what it looks like in the real world. You will be introduced to the foundations of community organising: listening, power and action. Community organisers reach out and listen to people, then connect and motivate them to build their collective power. In this course, you will start to explore how people come together so that they can understand and take action on their concerns to build community and overcome social injustice.
Further details available on the Community Organising website
Day 2 - Introduction to Community Hosting
'Community Hosting' is the practice of hosting safe and brave spaces and conversations in communities - using inclusive approaches and tools - where people can connect, reflect, learn, get organised and challenge power together to bring about meaningful change.
What will you learn and explore?
- principles of participation and power sharing in groups
- how to design and host conversations which lead to collective understanding, agreement and action
- methods for hosting groups at different stages of organising
- reflective practice
Day 3 - Community Conversation
This is your opportunity to practice/ witness in practice everything that you have learnt throughout the first two days. We will be inviting in the local community to explore the following:
What do you treasure in our community? What could be better? What are the barriers to creating change? How would you like to be involved? How can the Stonegrove Community Trust support you and others to bring about meaningful change?
To help to facilitate as an apprentice/ collaborator on day 3 you will need to stay through to 7pm on day 2, in order to receive additional coaching. (This is where the best learning is at, through practice). Alternative you can attend day 3 as a participant and see the practice in action.
